I'm kind of lost right now when it comes to Economics. I've missed a few days and then when I was here Mrs. McDaniel was sick so I couldn't have it explained to me. Now I'm going to be gone in Florida next week. What to do?! =S

This article is more or less proving how much economic decisions impact people. David Olsen had to find that out the hard way. Had he known the opportunity cost of his opinion, would he have still stood by his opinion?
David Olsen, a former Jefferson City Council member, whose spot was taken after he voted against Wal-Mart. Olsen's voting against Wal-Mart (twice) caused a recall election in which he lost his position. His opponent won by 65 votes.
David Olsen didn't think this was a smart economical decision for whatever reason. He stuck with his opinion and it lost him his position. This was Olsen's opportunity cost. Would you be strong enough so stand up for your beliefs at the risk of a high opportunity cost such as this?

Wow. That's really all I can say. I hadn't heard about this little incident, and I think it's horrible. But that's also democracy for you. People decide they don't like your actions and they force a recall. I think most of the residents of Jefferson are concerned about this Wal-Mart and oppose it on some level, yet this guy lost his recall election. To me, the moral of that story is that more people should have gone and voted. (sorry, this is econ, not gov.)
And I think I would have continued to stand up for my opinions on the issue. It's important to hear the other side of things, and by having an unpopular opinion, this person made the city council think about it's decision and it's consequences, which is always a good thing.
hi sam...um I think its more of a matter of utility that he derives from standing with his belief, of course there is an opportunity cost of being able to be on the board and what not...maybe what Im trying to say is his utility from the boardmembership was lower than the utility from his judgement.
